Fr. 77. 1880 $5 Legal Tender Note. PCGS Banknote Very Fine 30.

Fr. 77. 1880 $5 Legal Tender Note. PCGS Banknote Very Fine 30. Representative of a tough signature combination current between 1889 and 1891. This mid-grade "Woodchopper" is one of roughly 100 examples recorded for this specific variety of the Rosecrans - Huston signature combination. Here those engraved signatures are accompanied by a brownish-red Treasury seal which cuts a fine contrast against the engraved design including Henry Gulger's iconic vignette known as The Pioneer Family and the stately portrait of Andrew Jackson adapted from Thomas Sully's 1824 pre-Presidential portrait. In all, this is a note unfit to be overlooked if someone holds designs of building an exceptional and comprehensive set around this iconic design. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500.
