Fr. 95c. 1863 $10 Legal Tender Note. PMG Very Fine 20.

Fr. 95c. 1863 $10 Legal Tender Note. PMG Very Fine 20. A collaboration of both the American Bank Note Company and the National Bank Note Company that produced a thing of beauty that appears to have been well worth the effort. Here an eagle with federal shield is seen at center with spread wings and flanked by a pair of green "10" protectors along with a bold green protector grill seen below "UNITED STATES." Portrait of Lincoln at left opposite a subsidiary vignette of an allegorical woman representing "The Arts" at right. Engraved signatures of Chittenden and Spinner at bottom alongside a small, spiked treasury seal. Bold green back design bearing the so-called "Second Obligation" which dropped any mention of convertibility into 5-20 6% bonds. The last time we offered a Fr. 95c at a higher numerical grade was in our November 2019 Baltimore Auction (Lot 10172) and that example realized approximately $5,280 amidst a much less developed market. Estimate: $2,500 - $3,500. Click here for certification details from PMG.
