FRAGMENT OF A KISWAH EMBROIDERED WITH gilt AND SILVER METALLIC THREADS, INTENDED FOR THE HOLY KA‘BA, SAUDI ARABIA, 20TH CENTURY Almost square in shape, this fragment of the Kiswah is richly embroidered with gold and silver metallic threads on a black fabric background. In the center is a circular medallion featuring the Basmala and Surah Al-Ikhlas, surrounded by a calligraphic composition in the Thuluth script. The four corners are adorned with arabesque motifs and finely executed plant scrolls. INSCRIPTIONS: In the center: the Basmala and Surah Al-Ikhlas. DIMENSIONS: 90 × 91 cm
