frainier - gousset - 1850-1900

Pristine overall condition, remarkable for its richly relief-engraved case. • Engraver: The case is signed Frainier (visible in the cartouche on the left side of the sculpted scene). The Émile Frainier workshop, based in Morteau, France, was worldwide renowned at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century for the exceptional quality of its cases. • Illustration: The relief on the back of the watch depicts a rowing scene. You can see a team of athletes rowing on a body of water, a coxswain at the rear of the boat, as well as a floral décor and an Art Nouveau-style cartouche typical of the period.
