From a private collection and of legitimate provenance Splendid and imposing antique frame, model "Salvator Rosa" (also known in Rome as alla romana), with 2/3 orders of carved moulding, dating to the late 18th century (XVIII century) from the Emilia region or central Italy. The piece stands out for its extremely massive structure and for the refined period gilding/silvering technique: silver leaf applied with a wash on red bole (visible at points of natural wear that enhance its charm and authenticity) and finished with a light era patina. The back of the frame offers an extraordinary testimony of its era, showing hand-squared rough-hewn timber, old hammered nails, and the typical signs of time that certify its absolute authenticity and structural integrity. Present is an antique wrought-iron suspension ring. Dimensions: External: 73 x 64 cm Internal (rabbet): 58 x 49 cm Profile thickness/depth: 4.5 cm Conditions: In generally good condition considering its age. It presents a splendid natural patina, small losses of the preparatory layer and of the silver consistent with over 250 years of history, which do not compromise its beauty but rather enhance its collectible value. No recent invasive restoration evident. Excellent for framing an antique painting or mirror, or for a collection. Careful and trackable shipping.
