(That is 40 sets of 3 coins; 3 x 40 = 120 coins) The design of the new coins, imagined by the Chief Engraver of the Monnaie de Paris, Joaquin Jimenez, places at the center the profile of these three women who rest in the Panthéon, with their names engraved, looking in the same direction as a Sower, a symbol appearing on French coins for 120 years, in the foreground. Auschwitz survivor and figure of European politics and the fight for women's rights, Simone Veil is the face of the 10-centime coins, The resistant and feminist and anti-racist activist Joséphine Baker represents the 20-centime coin. Marie Curie, a French scientist who twice won the Nobel Prize, had already appeared on the previous 500-franc note and on several collector coins before becoming the new face of the 50-centime coins.
