Set of 2 decorative wall-hanging plates in earthenware (faience), produced by Utzschneider & Compagnie at Sarreguemines (Alsace - France) on the occasion of the historical visit of the Imperial Russian couple to France in October 1896, within the Franco-Russian Alliance. These 2 plates are in excellent condition, executed in the Art Nouveau style, and adorned with portrait medallions of Tsar Nicholas II Romanov, Emperor of Russia, and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. The portrait plate bearing the Tsar's portrait measures 21.9 cm in diameter. It shows a crack along its rim on the reverse corresponding to the location of a hanging mount, and a small lock of hair at the center of the reverse, as shown in the photos. The portrait plate bearing the Empress's portrait measures 21.8 cm in diameter. It has a tiny flaw at the base on the reverse and slight age-related spots, as shown in the photos.
