Franco Angeli (1935-1988) - Senza titolo

Landscape with an airplane, 1980s, mixed media on canvas, signed on the back at the top center, within a frame. Work archived at the Franco Angeli Archive, Rome, with number: as per authentication on photograph dated November 3, 2015, 83x63 cm with frame. The work in the image is a typical piece by Franco Angeli, a leading figure of Italian Pop Art linked to the Scuola di Piazza del Popolo in Rome. The painting combines an intensely blue sky with a dark lower band, scarred by a thick, impasto brushstroke that evokes the sea. In the sky appear the artist's iconic symbols: the stylized silhouette of an airplane, tied to wartime memories, and a solar geometric form. Unlike American Pop Art focused on consumer goods, Italian Pop Art (represented by Mario Schifano and Tano Festa) stands out for a strong connection to history, collective memory, and the country’s monumental past.
