Fredonia, New York. 1882 Brown Back $10 Fr. 480. Fredonia NB. Charter #841. PCGS Currency Extremely Fine 45. Situated to the south of Dunkirk, Fredonia is a not particularly tough prospect for National Bank Notes thanks to the National Bank of Fredonia (Charter# 9019) which records almost 100 individual notes. Yet this note does well to represent a distinct rarity as the notes issued by the Fredonia National Bank (Charter# 841) are prohibitively rare in comparison with only just seven pieces recorded by the National Bank Note Census. The majority of those seven notes are well-circulated but held against those notes it takes hardly anything to see that this lot is indeed exceptional. From traits such as luscious, penned signatures attributable to Cashier Frederick R. Green and President Ralph H. Hall to the grade assigned by PCGS Currency which attests to light circulation, bidders have here for their consideration what can be considered the veritable "keystone" among the notes recorded on this charter which fell to receivership in 1905. Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000.
