A French center table of the 19th century, executed in the Louis XV style, with a carved and giltwood frame of serpentine outline. The top is inset with a large Vienna porcelain plaque depicting an allegorical or romantic classical scene, surrounded by additional circular porcelain plaques painted with figural subjects. The plaques are mounted within an elaborate parquetry ground and framed by finely cast gilt-bronze mounts. Raised on cabriole legs joined by a shaped stretcher centered by a further porcelain plaque, the table exemplifies the historicist taste and high level of craftsmanship characteristic of French decorative arts of the late 19th century.
