FRENCH COLONIES. 1721-H Sou, or 9 Deniers. La Rochelle Mint. Martin 3.12-Unlisted, W-11830. EF-40 (PCGS). Struck from a reverse die unlisted in Martin (2015), the most significant diagnostic of which is heavy recutting to the top of the letter F in FRANÇOISES. Impression on both sides drawn somewhat to 3 o'clock or thereabouts, upper right border into the letters SIT NO, reverse soft at and around the letters ES in FRANÇOISES. Planchet pitting at right center on both sides also interferes with some of the design detail, especially on the reverse. Nice autumn-orange and olive-brown patina on surfaces that show just a hint of microgranularity and reveal no marks of note apart from a faint scratch on the reverse over and above the letter N in FRANÇOISES. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. Earlier from Heritage's Palm Beach, FL Online Session of March 2006, lot 7016. PCGS# 158632. NGC ID: 2AYH.
