FRENCH COLONIES. 1722/1-H Sou, or 9 Deniers. La Rochelle Mint. Martin 2.27-C.6, W-11835. Rarity-6. EF-40 (PCGS). A lovely example with blended tan, olive and rose-brown patina on hard, satiny surfaces. Obverse border into the peripheral letters at upper left, but otherwise this piece is well struck with bold to sharp detail at the assigned grade level. A few trivial planchet pits in the left obverse and right reverse field areas are as made and hardly of concern; there are no post-production blemishes. This is one of the nicest EF French colonial 9 deniers one is likely to find in today's market, and it is worthy of serious bidder consideration. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. Earlier ex Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society; Heritage's sale of the Eric P. Newman Collection, Part IX, November 2017, lot 15224. PCGS# 170195.
