France, late 19th century (circa 1870-1900). An elegant cobalt blue porcelain vase of elongated baluster form, mounted in finely cast gilt bronze (ormolu). The neck is encircled by an openwork gallery beneath a pair of scrolling foliate handles joined by rosette mounts. The body is embellished with an elaborate ormolu floral garland in high relief suspended above a pierced lattice frieze, all raised on a gilt bronze foot. Executed in the Louis XVI Revival taste, the rich bleu de roi porcelain combined with finely chased ormolu exemplifies the luxurious decorative arts produced in France during the Belle ‰poque.
