Splendid oil painting on canvas depicting a coastal view of northern France (Normandy). The work captures with extraordinary mastery the atmospheric light and the rendering of the sky typical of en plein air painting of the second half of the nineteenth century. Technical and Study Details: Style and Quality: The painting technique, characterized by a vibrant, impasto-like brushstroke and touches of lead white in the reflections of the water, shows an execution quality closely approaching the greatest masters of French Pre-Impressionism. The Signature: The work bears an antique signature in the lower corner.
