Portrait pastel of a young Napoleonic-era woman, circa 1810: High-waisted, tightly cut dress just under the bust, typical of the Empire style. The hairstyle: hair gathered into a bun with a central part and a curl. The setting and style: a misty landscape background in soft tones with a nascent neoclassical/romantic workmanship typical of bourgeois portraits of the period. It shows defects visible in the photo: a few small old holes. Aside from that, the colors are vivid and beautiful. The hazy, soft style of this pastel gives it a gentle presence. The frame: gilded leaf frame with a simple moulding and inner motifs of pearls or palmettes, characteristic of the early 19th century. It has a few small nicks visible in the photos. The pastel itself measures 37 x 30.4 cm, with the frame 44 x 37 cm. Careful shipping, happy bidding!
