French School circa 1940-1950 – Portrait of a Woman – Painting on a double-sided panel Painting on panel depicting a seated woman, made around the 1940s. The main composition presents a woman in a pensive attitude, seated in an interior. The painting stands out for a loose and expressive brushwork, a palette of muted tones highlighted by intense blues, and a highly pictorial treatment of the forms and the face. The back of the panel is also fully painted and features a second portrait of a seated woman, treated in a darker range and in a more intimate style. The presence of two finished compositions on the same panel gives this painting particular interest, both as an historical work and as a decorative object. Technique: painting on panel Epoch: around 1940-1950 School: French or European, 20th century Signature: unsigned Panel dimensions: 60 × 52 cm Overall dimensions with frame: 72 × 65 × 3 cm Old gilded frame. Old condition with signs of use, small marks and wear compatible with the age of the work.
