Rare bibliophile rarity: The splendid edition in excellent condition For sale is the complete first edition of the significant historical work "Leben und Thaten Friedrich’s des Großen, Königs von Preußen. Ein vaterländisches Geschichtsbuch" by Friedrich Förster. Published in 1840 by the renowned F. W. Goedsche Verlag in Meissen. This edition fundamentally distinguishes itself from the standard copies of the time: It is the extremely rare luxury variant with 49 contemporarily hand-colored copper engravings. The fine, detailed coloring makes every plate a visual highlight and a historical unique piece. Details & condition: Extent: Complete in 2 volumes bound. Format: Compact, charming pocket size (approximately 14 x 11.8 cm). Illustrations: All 49 original copper engravings present and in splendid, contemporary antique coloring (hand coloring). Condition: For a book of this age in very good condition. The book blocks are solid, the pages partly foxed. The book block edges show an age-related patina. The colors of the engravings are vivid and not faded. Binding: Contemporary, original half-cloth bindings of the period with decorative, multi-colored marbled paper cover. The book spines bear an elegant, dark spine panel with fine gold tooling and ornamental lines. Only minimal, age-typical wear to the edges – a collectible cabinet piece! An absolute highlight for collectors of Preussica, military history, and high-quality illustrated books of the Biedermeier era.
