All auctions / Furniture, Design & Mirrors / Frisian tail clock - - Walnut - 1970-1980

A traditional Dutch Frisian wall clock, also known as a Friese staartklok (Frisian wolf clock / anchor clock pendulum), characterized by a long, downward-pointing fatok (the “tail”) that protects the pendulum. Clocks in this style – such as those made by the renowned Dutch company WUBA / Warmink in the mid-20th century – have characteristic and recurring design elements: • Decorative figures on the roof: In the center is the figure of Atlas holding the globe (or the sky) on his shoulders, and on either side are winged angels/heralds with trumpets in their hands. • Dial and functions: The arch above the dial houses a working moon phase display (mechanical moon disk). The dial itself is enriched with hand-painted traditional Dutch motifs, landscapes and floral decorations. It bears the hallmarks of classicism (including the Dutch Louis styles, especially the Louis XVI style), which flourished in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It works perfectly, it signals very discreetly, every half hour and on the hour, as many hours as there are. The clock itself is actually not heavy, it is made of walnut wood. It has a few signs of use, and it is decorated with yellow cathedral glass on the side. We can post it carefully packaged, in an insured, registered package.
