FROMENT-MEURICE Portrait of Marie-Isabelle d'Orléans (1848–1919), Countess of Paris, in a three-quarter-length bust facing left Silver gelatin print, cabinet size. Presented in a beautiful Renaissance-style silver (800 parts per thousand) freestanding frame by Froment-Meurice, featuring a partially polychrome enameled decoration of openwork foliage, stylized fleurs-de-lis, and cabochons cut into diamond points of lapis lazuli and coral at the corners, and surmounted by the coat of arms of the d’Orléans family in an oval cartouche beneath the Prince of the Blood’s crown The silver frame is signed “FROMENT-MEURICE” on the back of the base In its original rectangular case made of red morocco leather from the House of Froment-Meurice, 872 Avenue Saint-Honoré in Paris; the lid stamped with a gilded Prince of the Blood’s crown; the interior lined with silk satin and green velvet Accompanied by a handwritten letter from her husband, “Louis-Philippe d’Orléans,” dated May 9, 1883, at 57 Rue de Varenne in Paris, attesting to the object’s provenance: “The Countess of Paris had her photograph framed at Froment-Meurice and has asked me to send it to you. It will be delivered to you along with this letter.
