GALERIE THÉÂTRALE — SAMSON AS FIGARO SAMSON (Joseph-Isidore). Mr. SAMSON. Role of Figaro in *The Barber of Seville*. Paris, Galerie Théâtrale, [circa 1830–1840]. Large engraving depicting a full-length portrait of Joseph-Isidore Samson (1793–1871), an actor with the Comédie-Française, in the role of Figaro in Beaumarchais’s The Barber of Seville. At the top: Galerie Théâtrale. Below the portrait: “Théâtre Français. Mr. SAMSON. Role of Figaro (The Barber of Seville).” Samson, a member of the Comédie-Française and a professor at the Conservatoire, was one of the leading figures of the 19th-century French theater scene. Condition: yellowed sheet, some foxing and traces of dust; minor wear at the edges.
