Gallant Scene. After Rose of Tivoli. Italian School. 18th - 19th Century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 65 x 52 cm; 82 x 71 cm. This costumbrista scene depicts a shepherd playing the flute, surrounded by farmyard animals, while a woman converses with him in a rustic architectural setting. The treatment of light, the scenographic distribution, and the expressiveness of the animals are heirs to the style of Rosa da Tivoli. The loose brushwork, earthy tones, and rural atmosphere place the work between the late Baroque and the rural Romanticism of northern Italy. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
