Original gouache on paper, signed bottom left. Title: Maternity Beautiful original work by Belgian painter Gaston Relens (1909-2011), depicting a mother tenderly holding her newborn in her arms. This composition is distinguished by the intensity of its colors and the softness of its subject. The artist uses a particularly luminous palette, dominated by turquoise, blue, green and pink hues, harmoniously contrasting with the warm tones of the faces and hands. The simplified shapes, assertive contours and stylized volumes testify to a personal pictorial handwriting, close to figurative expressionism. The mother's gaze, serene, gives this work a profoundly humane and timeless dimension. About the artist: Gaston Relens (1909-2011) was a Belgian painter born in Mechelen. He studied at the Mechelen Academy of Fine Arts with Gustave Van de Woestyne, then at the Brussels Academy with Anto Carte. His work is characterized in particular by an expressive exploration of colour, light and human representation. Technique: original gouache on paper Signature: signed bottom left Dimensions of the work as viewed: 69 × 49 cm Dimensions with frame: 80 × 60 cm Origin: Belgian school Style: figurative expressionism Subject: maternity, mother and child Period: 20th century Condition: excellent Presentation: white frame with mat
