Genuine Isurus Oxyrinchus Mako Shark Tooth - Exceptional...

Impressive specimen, preserved in excellent condition — This lot presents a magnificent and extraordinarily well-preserved specimen of a fossil shark tooth from the mako, scientifically identified as Isurus oxyrinchus. With a length of 46 mm, this tooth stands out for its impeccable integrity, including a porous root and a perfectly intact enamel crown. Its morphology, with functional curvature and a smooth surface free of serrations on the margins, indicates an anterior superior position in the dentition, optimized for hunting. The natural tones of the specimen, ranging from the ivory white of the crown to the light beige of the root, enhance its intrinsic beauty and make it an object of notable aesthetic value. The mako shark is recognized as one of the most efficient and fastest predators of the oceans. Its hydrodynamic structure and powerful musculature enable it to reach remarkable speeds, over 70 km/h in open water. The anterior teeth of Isurus oxyrinchus are not designed to tear, but to penetrate with precision. This specialization allows the mako to strike agile prey such as tuna, swordfish, and mackerel with a single, rapid, and fatal motion, demonstrating a perfect harmony between form and function in the animal kingdom. This tooth is a tangible testament to millions of years of evolutionary adaptation, a true marvel of nature. The root, wide and robust, provided a secure anchor to the predator's jaw, while the conical, polished, and smooth crown is a masterpiece of biological design. The thin vertical lines visible on the crown's surface tell the story of its growth, almost like rings of a tree recording time and the predator's experience. A piece of such quality is not only a scientific study object and a precious addition to any fossil collection, but also a decorative element of great impact. Its natural elegance and its millennial history make it ideal for enriching a Wunderkammer, an office, or an exhibition space, offering a deep sense of connection with the primal power of the oceans. Any minor visible imperfections are part of its natural formation and do not in any way compromise its charm or authenticity. An incredibly valuable collectible item and of rare beauty, a tangible fragment of the unstoppable force of marine life.
