The Tithonos is a rare, 1970-71 limited-edition art piece based on the 1962 gouache design by French Cubist master Georges Braque (French, 1882-1963). The decorative sculpture is constructed from a textured material of fine wood plated with gold, silver, and platinum. It features a heavily relief-textured surface with a central stylized bird motif in cream and gold accents. The piece is supported by a substantial square pedestal base with a matching textured finish., or can be removed from the base hung. The tabletop bears an incised cursive signature G. Braque. A silver metal plaque is affixed to the panel, inscribed G. Braque, TITHONOS, and numbered 11/75. Documentation includes a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Armand Israel, expert and rights-holder for Georges Braque, dated January 14, 2019. Also included is a copy of Georges Braque Sculptures by Armand Israel, where this model is illustrated and described on page 89. Similar pieces and artworks were featured in Georges Braque: Tactile Space exhibition at the Bruce Museum, Greenwich, Connecticut. Total dimensions table: 46"L x 33"W x 15"H. Weight: 58 lbs.
