Gerard Noodt - Noviomagi, jurisconsulti et antecessoris, Opera omnia - 1786

Gerard Noodt – Opera Omnia – Naples, 1786 – 4 volumes in full parchment binding Interesting eighteenth-century collection of the legal works of Gerard Noodt (1647–1725), renowned Dutch jurist and scholar of Roman law. Gerardi Noodt Noviomagi, Jurisconsult and Antecessors, Opera Omnia. Neapolis, apud Fratres Terres, Superiorum Facultate, 1786. Four volumes, numbered I, II, III and IV, belonging to the same edition and preserved in elegant uniform bindings in full parchment. The spines, smooth, feature double cords: the upper ones in brown-reddish leather with the author's name «NOODT», the lower ones in dark leather with the volume numbering, both embellished with gilded frets and lines. The work collects important treatises and commentaries dedicated to Roman law, civil law, the Pandects and the classical legal tradition. Particularly interesting is the first volume, which presents a full-page engraved portrait of the author, placed opposite the title page. Conditions: good overall condition for an eighteenth-century edition. Bindings solid in appearance, with normal signs of time, stains, superficial abrasions and light wear to the corners and ends of the spines. Endpieces present and legible. Interiors generally well legible, with occasional foxing, yellowing, stains and marginal halos. An abrasion more evident on the lower endpiece of the second volume is noted. The series comprises the four volumes foreseen by the work's index. Language: Latin. Place of printing: Naples. Year: 1786. Binding: full parchment. Number of volumes: 4. The photographs constitute an integral part of the description and document the conservation state of the lot.
