In 1900, he began studying at the Dresden School of Applied Arts and worked part-time as a decorative painter. He encouraged his friend Max Pechstein to do the same. Both eventually continued their studies at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. During this time, they also lived together. There, Gerbig studied under R. Müller, Zwintscher, and Kuehl, and in 1913 he received the Villa Romana Prize as well as an annual scholarship from the City of Florence. Throughout his life, he maintained close correspondence with Pechstein, and the two met regularly.Bibliography: Vollmer; Knop: “Look—It’s Me!”—The Painter and Graphic Artist Alexander Gerbig.*This is an automatically generated translation from German by deepl.com and only to be seen as an aid - not a legally binding declaration of lot properties.
