Germany, Prussia Willem I. Vereinsthaler 1870 (Berlín)

GERMANY. Berlin. Vereinstaler. 1870 A. Wilhelm I (1861-1888) - Value: 1 Vereinstaler. - Reign: Wilhelm I (1861-1888). - Year: 1870. - Inscriptions: Obverse: WILHELM KOENIG VON PREUSSEN · A. Reverse: EIN VEREINSTHALER XXX EIN PFUND FEIN · 1870. - Grade: Uncirculated. Silver 1 Vereinstaler coin minted in Berlin during the reign of Wilhelm I of Prussia, three years after the formation of the North German Confederation and one year before the proclamation of the German Empire. The obverse presents the monarch’s bare bust facing right, with a highly realistic portrait and remarkable precision in the details of the hair, sideburns, and facial features. Beneath the bust is the letter A, corresponding to the Berlin mint. The reverse shows the imposing crowned Prussian eagle, wings outstretched, holding a scepter and orb, with the dynastic shield on the chest, surrounded by the Order of the Black Eagle. The surrounding legend refers to the monetary standard of thirty talers per pound of fine silver. The piece exhibits very sharp relief, especially in the eagle’s plumage, the crown, and the legends, with clean-looking fields, a bright silvery tone, and light superficial blemishes. A representative piece of 19th-century Prussian numismatics, corresponding to a decisive stage in the German unification process.
