Giacomo Leopardi - Epistolario - 1854

Giacomo Leopardi – Epistolary – Florence, Felice Le Monnier, 1854 – Two volumes bound into one Interesting nineteenth-century edition of Leopardi's Epistolary, gathered and arranged by Prospero Viani, published in Florence by Felice Le Monnier in 1854. The work includes the correspondence of the great poet of Recanati, a fundamental document for the knowledge of his life, his thought and his relations with the Italian intellectual world of the early nineteenth century. Alongside Leopardi's letters are the Greek inscriptions triopee, translated into Italian verse by Leopardi himself, with text and notes, as well as the letters of Pietro Giordani and Pietro Colletta addressed to the author. The epistolary includes correspondences with family members, friends, scholars and cultural figures of the time, among whom Francesco Cancelliere and Adelaide Maestri. The volume also preserves the indices of the correspondents, particularly useful for consultation. Bibliographic characteristics Author: Giacomo Leopardi (1798–1837). Title: Epistolary of Giacomo Leopardi. Editor: Prospero Viani. Place of printing: Florence. Publisher: Felice Le Monnier. Year: 1854. Language: Italian, with Greek texts. Content: two editorial volumes reunited in a single physical volume. Format: small nineteenth-century format, to be specified with the actual measurements. Binding: dark leather half-binding with boards covered in printed cloth featuring floral motifs; title, fillets and gilt decorations on the spine. Condition: Copy in generally good condition for its age. The binding shows scuffs, abrasions and signs of use, particularly visible on the spine, the headcaps and the corners. The interiors generally legible, with slight yellowing, sporadic stains and small signs of time. Photographs are an integral part of the description and document the actual condition of the specimen. Collecting interest A work of notable interest for enthusiasts of Giacomo Leopardi, of nineteenth-century Italian literature and of the history of Romantic thought. An important editorial testimony to the posthumous diffusion of Leopardi's writings, in a characteristic nineteenth-century binding.
