Tiny Township, Georgian Bay. 1985-1990. After a dream in 1985 of Noah and Mrs. Noah (referring to Noah's ark), Desrochers was inspired to create a new body of work and became focused solely on creating sculptures. Starting with Mr. and Mrs. Noah, then continuing on through the animal kingdom, Desrochers produced his finest animal carvings between 1985 and 1990, many of which were completed by 1990 just before his passing. With its arched back and alert eyes, this cat is a fine example of his later work. This carving is similar to the cat in the photo of 'Gilbert's Workshop, C. 1980' on page 15 of the McMichael exhibition catalogue, "The Peaceable Kingdom of Gilbert Desrochers." Signed, "G D", on reverse of base.
