Gio Buton C.S.A. - Hanging lamp (16) - Glass

Stock of 16 empty transparent glass bottles, characterized by the typical three-sided triangular shape of the well-known Italian brandy Vecchia Romagna Brandy. At the top there is a curved band with the inscription "VECCHIA ROMAGNA BRANDY". In the center runs a vertical ribbon with the date 1820. In the center sits a large circular golden emblem with the iconic face of Bacchus crowned with grapes and the inscription "ETICHETTA BIANCA", which also had "ETICHETTA NERA". At the bottom another label indicates: "Vecchia Romagna - Pure distillate of naturally aged wine - Produced and bottled by Gio. Buton C.S.A. Bologna at the San Lazzaro di Savena (BO) plant". The neck of the bottle features a band with the inscription "Fascia di Garanzia" and the state seal in pink/red paper typical of alcohol taxes. The cap has an upper metal ring or hook. These bottles have been transformed into a lamp belonging to an old pub now out of use. Instead of the normal cap, there is a lamp holder with a metal suspension ring, designed to hang the lamp. Inside the neck there is a lamp holder and an electrical cord running through it. At the bottom there is a wide finished circular opening, specially designed to allow the light of the bulb to spread freely downward; this is an artisanal transformation. The date "1820" on the central ribbon refers to the year when Jean Buton, master distiller of Napoleon I's imperial house, moved to Bologna to found Italy’s first steam distillery: the Distilleria G. Buton & C.. The birth of Vecchia Romagna (1939): with the introduction of autarchy and the prohibition on using foreign terms like Cognac, the company created the Vecchia Romagna Acquavite di Vino (later called Brandy) brand, identified from the start by the face of Bacchus with a crown of grapes. The triangular bottle (1958): In 1958 the famous three-sided bottle was born, designed to stand out immediately on the shelf and become an icon of Italian industrial design. Advertising lamps (1960s - 1970s): In the Carosello era and the great commercial success, Buton had these oversized bottles without a bottom made in glassworks to be transformed into pendant lamps for bars, taverns, and trattorias. They were not objects intended for retail sale, but promotional furnishings provided to public venues to advertise the brand "Etichetta Bianca". Today it is no longer produced. This specific vintage advertising item dates from the period between the 1960s and 1970s. Today these lamps are considered collectibles and mid-century modern items, available only on the second-hand market, in antique markets, or from collectors of Vecchia Romagna / Buton advertising memorabilia. Size: height 31 x 17 x
