The work reproduces the iconic three-quarter pose with the gaze directed at the observer, the turban draped in golden fabric, and the pearl earring, distinctive elements of the original seventeenth-century piece. Compared to Vermeer’s painting, this spectacular version introduces some personal variations: the turquoise band decorated with small flowers that runs through the turban, the more direct gaze and the slightly parted lips give the face a more modern and immediate expression, while the uniform dark background remains faithful to the intimate atmosphere of the original. The painting technique, attentive and well-calibrated in the light-and-shadow transitions of the face, alternates descriptive precision in the facial features with a freer, more tactile rendering in the golden drapery of the garment, embellished with turquoise decorative motifs. The work is signed at the bottom left and bottom right 'G. Vitale'
