Giovanni Vetere (1940) - Abstrakte Figur

Small, characteristic bronze by the Italian-German artist Giovanni Vetere (*1940). The highly reduced, anthropomorphic figure shows typical features of Vetere's sculptural language: a simplified body form, a mask-like face, and a few, distinctly placed facial elements. This archaism-like reduction is precisely one of the recurring motifs in his sculptural oeuvre. The bronze is two-tone finished. The body has a dark green patina, while the facial surface remains or is highlighted in a warm gold- or brass-colored tone. This creates an appealing contrast between body and face. The work stands on a rectangular dark stone plinth. Back, monogrammed and numbered 3/49. It is thus an exemplar from a small edition of only 49 bronzes. The work is stylistically and temporally likely to be from the 1990s. Vetere lived and worked since 1989 in Eitorf and was intensively engaged with sculpture and plastic design alongside his painting. His sculptural works are often characterized by deliberately visible working traces and an immediate handling of the material.
