Giuseppe Canella (1788-1847) - Il cammino verso casa

Giuseppe Canella (Verona, July 28, 1788 – Florence, September 11, 1847) The path home The painting has only those two abrasions on the right and left as seen in the photo; otherwise the painting is intact and would also deserve a light cleaning given the importance of the author Giuseppe Canella (Verona, July 28, 1788 – Florence, September 11, 1847) was an Italian painter. Biography He received the first rudiments of artistic training from his father Giovanni, an architect, fresco painter and scenographer; otherwise, Giuseppe Canella is to be considered self-taught. [no source] In the early years of his activity he dedicated himself to creating stage scenery for Verona theatres and to decorative painting, in fresco, of noble residences in Verona and Mantua. Naviglio taken from the San Marco bridge in Milan, 1834. Art Collections of the Fondazione Cariplo Perhaps influenced by Pietro Ronzoni, a landscape painter of international fame active in Verona, he turned to landscape painting. After staying in Mantua from 1811 to 1815, a brief stay in Venice allowed him to study the vedutisti of the Venetian and 18th-century schools. He also undertook trips to the Netherlands, discovering Dutch landscape painters of the 17th century. He drew inspiration for a painting from life, somewhat static in its scenic precision, but with beautiful luminosity and often well keyed with color. La corsia dei servi a Milano (1834) He debuted at the Brera Fine Arts Exhibition in 1818, presenting canvases with views. He then undertook a long study trip that brought him to Spain and France, and he stayed in Paris for ten years. Around 1830 he produced drawings reproducing boulevards and views of the Seine in central Paris, visible in the collection of drawings at the Museo Sforzesco and belonging to the Milan Modern Art Gallery. In 1831 he sent to the Brera Academy Exhibition thirteen landscapes that met with public favor, also thanks to the notoriety Canella had gained in France for his constant presence at the Paris Salons. Louis-Philippe d’Orléans awarded him a gold medal in 1830. In 1832 Canella returned to Milan, where Ferdinand I of Austria had chosen him as an academic at Brera. He devoted himself to producing urban views, characterized by an interest in contemporary life and by a wide and airy atmospheric rendering, with small figures drawn with few strokes—these views competed with those of Giovanni Migliara. From 1835 he largely returned to landscape, choosing views of the Lombard countryside and lake environments. He also became interested in poorer and humbler aspects, in line with the moralizing aims derived from the Manzoni tradition. He undertook a study trip to Rome and Naples in the two-year period 1838–1839.
