Giuseppe Santomaso (1907-1990) - Senza Titolo

Splendid etching/aquatint with a very light bloom. Hand-signed Giuseppe Santomaso (Venice, September 26, 1907 – Venice, May 23, 1990) was an Italian painter. Together with Emilio Vedova, he was a representative of Abstract art in both its Lyric and Expressionist forms. Since then he participated almost continuously in the Venice Biennale (in 1950, 1952, 1954, 1956, 1962, 1964, 1972, 1986 and 1988). At the 26th Biennale of 1952, he took part in the Gruppo degli Otto (with Afro, Birolli, Corpora, Moreni, Morlotti, Turcato, Vedova) the abstract-concretes, as Lionello Venturi defined them: painters committed to transforming from within the tradition of figurative painting, highlighting the necessity of abstraction, understood as a process with no predefined limits.
