Glass beads strand - String of beads - Venetian Beads

ANTIQUE VENETIAN TRADE BEAD STRAND — Fine Mixed Collection of 53 A generous, beautifully varied strand of 53 genuine antique Venetian glass trade beads, assembled one by one over years of sourcing — millefiori mosaic beads, hand-trailed lampwork, wound and striped forms, in a rich spread of colors, shapes and sizes. Anchored by a large tabular millefiori centerpiece bead in reds, blues, greens and yellows, this is a true collector's strand rather than a single repeated type. PLEASE NOTE — THIS IS A LOOSE BEAD STRAND, NOT A FINISHED NECKLACE As shown, the 53 beads are strung on a temporary cord with no clasp, measuring 68 cm / 26.7 in bead to bead. Ready to restring into a necklace exactly as arranged, rearrange to taste, or keep as a study strand of genuine antique Venetian glass. THE DETAILS THAT MATTER Beads of these types were produced in Venice from the 18th through the early 20th century and traded extensively across West and Central Africa, where they were worn, exchanged and passed down for generations. Look closely at the detail photos and you'll see the individuality that only comes with genuine age — each bead has its own pattern, its own wear, its own small imperfections — exactly what distinguishes a real antique collection from a matched set of modern reproductions. The central bead, the largest and most elaborate in the strand, measures 20.3 x 22.6 mm. MATERIAL & LOOK Genuine antique Venetian glass across a wide range of techniques — millefiori mosaic cane, hand-trailed lampwork, wound and ribbed forms — in yellows, blacks, blues, greens, reds and whites, with one tabular millefiori centerpiece bead. WHY COLLECTORS SEEK OUT THIS STRAND A large, genuinely mixed strand like this one is exactly what serious African trade bead collectors look for — enough variety in one place to study side by side, anchored by a striking centerpiece bead, and long enough to wear as a statement necklace on its own.
