Gold and Platinum Earrings with Old-Cut Diamonds and Large South Sea

Antique jewelry fragments sometimes possess a charm all their own. Even when they have lost their original function, they still retain the beauty of historic goldsmithing, and sometimes all it takes is a new idea to make them wearable again. The earrings shown here were created in our workshop from such antique pieces. The starting point is two historic platinum diamond elements shaped like teardrops. Two old-cut diamonds and two brilliant-cut diamonds fill the teardrop shapes. We have combined these antique platinum settings with two exceptionally large, baroque South Sea cultured pearls. Measuring approximately 16.2 × 19.6 mm each, they have a striking presence. Their irregularly shaped form makes each pearl one-of-a-kind, and their luster, along with their softly contoured surface featuring naturally formed grooves and ridges, creates a charming contrast to the perfect sparkle of the diamonds. Thus, these earrings—approximately 4 cm long—bridge the gap between historical elements and contemporary design. The antique diamond settings are given new life without losing their original character, while the magnificent South Sea pearls lend the design a modern sense of grandeur. The result is an elegant pair of earrings that exists in this form only once.
