Discovery Zone 23°33’ North 08°06’ West These nuggets come from the desert region of Tiris Zemmour in northern Mauritania, more than a hundred kilometers from an area called Guelb Ndour. Gold mining in this country was reserved only for a large industrial company. But since 2016 individual mining has been allowed using metal detectors. I offer them as I found them; I have only cleaned them with soapy water. The gold from this region is quite pure; in general its purity is around 950 to 980 thousandths, which corresponds to 22.80 to 23.50 carats Although gold mining has become one of Mauritania's main resources, the nuggets are fairly rare because almost all gold is melted into bars which are then sent to Dubai All photos are taken in natural daylight.
