This Pilkington's Royal Lancaster lustre vase was manufactured in England during the early 20th century, circa 1905-1915. The earthenware vessel features a baluster form with a tapered body, wide shoulders, and a short, flared neck. The exterior is decorated with a lustre glaze technique. The neck displays a band of Gothic-style script characters in a copper-toned lustre against a deep green ground. The main body is ornamented with large, stylized heraldic dragons executed in copper and gold-toned lustre, accented by iridescent rainbow bands. The lower section features a band of stylized foliate or wave motifs. The interior of the neck is finished in an iridescent gold-toned glaze. The base is marked with the word ENGLAND in sans-serif capital letters alongside a circular mark containing a stylized four-part symbol. Above this is a monogram consisting of the letter P surmounted by a stylized bird or floral form, identifying the artist as Gordon Forsyth, who served as the art director for the firm.
