Graceful Antique Brooch With Old European Cut Diamonds in Gold, c. 1900

Flower motifs have been extremely popular in jewellery design throughout the centuries. Similar to a bouquet of flowers, they were an expression of affection and love, but unlike their organic cousins, they never wilted. Every era has used flowers and, of course, their shapes have been varied to suit the tastes of the time. This graceful brooch is therefore part of a long line of tradition and has a slightly abstract shape. The piece of jewellery from around 1900 is made of slightly reddish gold. It is open-worked and has the shape of a flower with five petals. Fine gold bars, so-called knife wires, form the airy composition. Fifteen glittering old European cut diamonds with a total weight of around one carat give the little plant a magnificent appearance. The brooch, which was most likely made in Germany, is in very good condition and is a little delight for friends of flowers - not to mention a wonderful gift.
