Grande Italian Mineral Collection – 27 selected samples, 5.5 kg across the Apennines, the Alps, Elba and Sardinia This important selection brings together 27 mineral samples, with a clear predominance of Italian minerals and two foreign entries from Slovakia and Switzerland. The total weight of the lot is 5.5 kg, equal to about 5500 grams. It is a very varied collection, built around some of the most interesting localities in Italian mineralogy: Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Elba Island, Sardinia, Piedmont, Aosta Valley, Lombardy, Campania and Lazio. A wide selection, rich in different species and with several samples of strong collecting interest. The strength of this collection lies in the great variety of geological contexts represented: calcites in septaria, beta quartz from the Apennines, Alpine minerals, datolites from Sasso di Castro, evaporite sulfates from Elba, Tuscan sulfides, Sardinian minerals, samples from Baveno, Lombard fluorites and some rare or uncommon species such as Baveno epidote, Sardinian smithsonite, Elba melanterite and vesuvianite associated with grossular. The lot includes: • Calcite – Rio delle Ossa, Bologna, Emilia-Romagna Sample of calcite from a Bologna-area locality of regional interest. Calcite is one of the most representative minerals of Italian sedimentary and hydrothermal contexts, always valued for its luster, morphological variety and educational value. • Stibiconite, listed as “tibiconite” – Pereta, Tuscany Sample from the historic Pereta mining area, a locality tied to Tuscan antimoniferous mineralizations. Stibiconite is an antimony oxide-hydroxide, often related to alteration of primary minerals such as stibnite. The label “tibiconite” is kept as a reference to the historical tag, but the correct species to verify is likely stibiconite. • Pyrite – San Clemente, Bologna, Emilia-Romagna Classic Emilia-Romagna specimen with bright metallic crystals. The San Clemente pyrite is highly prized for provenance, luster and territorial value. • Grossular and vesuvianite – San Vito, Naples, Campania Very interesting association between grossular garnet and vesuvianite, two silicates typical of metamorphic and metasomatic environments. A specimen of strong systematic interest, especially for collectors of Italian minerals linked to carbonate and skarn contexts. • Beta quartz – Ca’ de Ladri, Bologna, Emilia-Romagna Beta quartz from one of the most sought-after Apennine localities. Ca’ de Ladri beta quartz is appreciated for its characteristic crystal habit and its link to ophiolitic contexts of the Apennines. • Quartz – Italian Alps Alpine specimen with vitreous luster and clearly readable crystallization. A classic in Alpine fissures, always important in an Italian mineral collection. • Epidote – Baveno, Piedmont Rare and very interesting specimen from the Baveno area, famous especially for minerals related to granites and pegmatites. The epidote adds a Piedmontese presence of great charm and uncommonness. • Black beta quartz – Ca’ de Ladri, Bologna, Emilia-Romagna Dark variant of Apennine beta quartz, with color due to inclusions and iron oxides. An aesthetic and territorial specimen, very representative of Bologna’s mineralogy. • “Ice” gypsum – Secchiano, Emilia-Romagna Gypsum specimen labeled as the “ice” variety, a collecting term used to describe specimens that are particularly clear, translucent, or ice-like in appearance. Interesting for morphology and provenance. • Quartz – Bruzolo, Turin, Piedmont Piedmont quartz specimen, interesting for provenance and collecting value. A simple but useful piece to complete the geographic variety of the lot. • Melanterite – Calamita Mine, Elba Island, Tuscany Iron(II) sulfate hydrate from the historic Calamita Mine. Delicate mineral, should be kept in a stable, dry environment. Elban provenance makes it particularly interesting for collections focused on Elba minerals. • Aragonite variety “rice grain” – Secchiano, Emilia-Romagna Aragonite with tiny, granular morphology, labeled as the “rice grain” variety. Curious and highly characteristic specimen, valued for form and educational value. • Quartz hopper – Porretta Terme, Emilia-Romagna Quartz specimen developed in a hopper form, i.e., skeletal or recessed growth relative to crystal edges. Interesting both for morphology and Apennine provenance. • Calcite in septaria – Valle del Sillaro, Emilia-Romagna Classic Emilian specimen with calcite developed within septarian nodule septa. Glassy crystals blanket the fractures of the nodules, creating a very aesthetic and educational effect. • Datolite and fluorescent calcite – Sasso di Castro, Firenzuola, Tuscany Very interesting association from one of Italy’s best-known localities for datolite. The calcite reactive to ultraviolet light adds further charm to the specimen, combining aesthetic, systematic and mineralogical curiosities. • Garnet – Bellecombe, Valle d’Aosta Alpine garnet specimen from the Aosta Valley, a region known for metamorphic mineralizations of great interest. An important piece to complete the Alpine portion of the selection. • Sulfur – Pereta Mine, Tuscany Sulfur sample from the historic Pereta mining area. Tuscan sulfur, associated with mineral environments rich in antimony and sulfides, represents a very interesting presence in the lot. • Quartz and hematite – Valle Giove, Rio Marina, Elba Island, Tuscany Elba’s value-laden association of quartz with hematite. Valle Giove is one of the most representative areas of Elba’s ferriferous mineralogy, famous for iron minerals and aesthetic associations. • Barite – Sardinia Sardinian barite sample, barium sulfate highly prized for its crystallization and high specific gravity. Sardinia is historically important for Italian mineralogy, and this specimen adds geographic value to the collection. • Datolite – Sasso di Castro, Firenzuola, Tuscany Second datolite sample from Sasso di Castro, a classic Appennine locality. Datolite is highly sought after for its brilliance, light color and elegant crystallization. • Gypsum – Secchiano, Emilia-Romagna Gypsum sample from Secchiano, interesting for its sedimentary-evaporitic context and territorial value. • Green and pink fluorite – Zogno, Lombardy Very aesthetic specimen, with fluorite in green and pink hues. The color combination makes it particularly pleasant and decorative, as well as interesting for Italian provenance. • Smithsonite – Sa Duchessa, Sardinia Rare and very interesting Sardinian smithsonite. Smithsonite is a secondary zinc carbonate, often linked to the alteration of lead-zinc mineralizations. Provenance from Sa Duchessa increases its collecting value. • Quartz and calcite – Rome, Lazio Lazio specimen with quartz and calcite association. Interesting for provenance and for representing a less common region in Italian mineral lots. • Quartz and calcite – Rome, Lazio Second specimen from the same area, useful for morphological comparison and to reinforce Lazio’s presence in the collection. • Galena – Slovakia Foreign galena sample, lead sulfide with the typical metallic luster and high weight. Adds a classic and highly representative international presence to the selection. • “Zanite” – Ticino, Switzerland Sample labeled as “zanite” from Ticino. The label is kept as historical collection information, awaiting more precise species verification. The Swiss provenance nonetheless adds geographic and collecting interest. This grand mineral collection brings together 27 samples selected for variety, provenance and collecting interest. The Italian component predominates, with specimens from classic localities in the Apennines, the Alps, Elba, Sardinia, Tuscany, Piedmont and Emilia-Romagna. The value of the lot lies mainly in its variety: aesthetic specimens, rare species, historic localities and very diverse mineral associations. From Sasso di Castro’s datolite to Sardinian smithsonite, from Elban melanterite to Baveno epidote, up to Zogno’s green and pink fluorite, every piece helps build a broad, rich and very interesting collection. Kire Minerals is proud to offer this important mineral selection, personally chosen by Erik Lombini with his usual passion and expertise. Each sample has been evaluated for aesthetic, scientific or collecting interest, with the aim of offering an authentic, varied and representative lot of great Italian mineralogy. Kire Minerals – your collection, with passion.
