Green demantoid

From our selection of collectible minerals, we present a splendid group of crystals on a matrix of Demantoid (Andradite garnet) with asbestos, from Val Malenco, in the province of Sondrio, Lombardy. Furthermore, it is characterized by numerous Demantoide crystals of an intense green color, set in a matrix rich in asbestos, with glossy surfaces and a pleasant chromatic contrast between the green of the garnets and the gray‑white rock surrounding them, which enhances both its aesthetic value and mineralogical importance. The specimen stands out for the quality of crystallization and for its overall aesthetic balance, with characteristics that highlight its natural structure and visual impact. Demantoide is the emerald-green variety of garnet called Andradite, whose color is due to traces of chromium and, in some cases, iron in the crystal structure. The name derives from the Dutch term 'demant' (diamond), due to its high brilliance and light dispersion, comparable to that of a diamond. Val Malenco, in Lombardy, is one of the few Alpine localities known for the production of this rare garnet, here associated with serpentine rocks and the asbestos typical of the area. All minerals are 100% natural and untreated, except for very rare exceptions always noted in the description. Photos are taken with professional lighting to best showcase colors and details; however, slight variations in shade may occur depending on the device or ambient light.
