Green tourmaline Ring / new- 1.32 g - (1)

Ring Green Tourmaline Set in 925 sterling silver New and unworn Green tourmalines are also called verdelite. This designation, however, does not indicate the mineralogical assignment to a specific type of tourmaline. The name verdelite simply describes the color of the tourmaline. The mineral group of tourmalines includes a number of boron-containing, similar ring silicates with a complex structure. Today twelve tourmaline species are distinguished, which mostly occur as mixed crystals. Historically, the name 'tourmaline' was a catch-all term for unknown, usually red gemstones and was derived in the 18th century in Europe from its then origin in the Sinhala language; it means 'something small from the earth' (toramolli). Today, tourmalines are often referred to as the 'gems of the rainbow' because of their many colors.
