Greene (Graham) The Heart of the Matter, uncorrected proof, Heinemann, 1948.

Greene (Graham) The Heart of the Matter, uncorrected proof, scattered spotting, mostly marginal, original printed wrappers (upper wrapper printed on the reverse of a Georgette Heyer dust-jacket), ?lacking lower cover, shelf-lean, creasing and some chipping to spine, some splitting to joint ends, spotting to covers, creasing to corners, some chipping and fraying to edges, 8vo, Heinemann, 1948. *** Rare proof of one of Greene's most celebrated novels. Only a handful of copies appear to have been issued and the text was revised extensively by the author prior to publication. Curiously the only other copy we can trace at auction, the author's own, appears also to have been without a lower cover.

Estimate:£1,000
