Grödnertal / Val Gardena – Südtirol - Sculpture

Madonna with Child, monumental fully dimensional wooden sculpture. 20th century, probably 1960s to 1980s. Solid wood, hand-carved; stylistically attributed to the Grödner/Val Gardena carving tradition from South Tyrol. Height: about 72 cm. Without signature or provenance documentation; a precise workshop attribution is not possible. Completely newly prepared and revarnished with gesso priming, gold finish and a high-gloss surface. The current gold finish is modern and applied later; no original historical gilding. Faces, hair, hands, feet and the lively drapery are carved in relief; the back is also fully finished.

Estimate:£211.8
