GROUP OF MANGBETU NEGBE

Ca. 20th century AD. > A group of five Mangbetu negbe, formed from bark and plant fibres and decorated with bold geometric patterns in contrasting dark and natural tones. The pieces vary in form, including rounded and oval examples, each featuring carefully composed linear, concentric, and cross-hatched motifs arranged to emphasise the contours of the surfaces. The decoration is achieved through incised or dyed designs, producing striking compositions that include parallel bands, radiating lines, and intricate geometric arrangements. Among the Mangbetu, negbe were worn as elements of womens back aprons, attached to fibre garments as decorative components of dress. > > Size: 200-270mm x 300-400mm; Weight: 840g > Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014; Ex.
