All auctions / Porcelain & Pottery / GROUP OF THREE CYPRIOT POTTERY VESSELS

Ca. 1050 - 600 BC. A two-handled jar and two small round-bodied bottles or juglets form this group of three vessels in pale buff pottery. The jar has a broad squat body supported on a low foot and surmounted by a tall flaring neck, with two small loop handles applied at the shoulder. The upper bottle is distinguished by a flattened globular body, short neck and everted rim, although no handle can be seen in the frontal view. The vessel on the right has a rounded body ending in a small pointed or nipple-like base and rises to a short neck with a broad flaring lip. Heavy wear and encrustation affect all three surfaces, leaving only faint traces that may derive from former painted or slipped decoration. Size: 70-80mm x 75-85mm; Weight: 415g Provenance: Private UK collection; London art market acquisition, 1980s.
