All auctions / Asian Art / Guanyin, Chinese Goddess of Compassion, China, Northern Qi Dynasty

Descriptio Guanyin, Bodhisattva of Compassion, depicted seated on a lotus-shaped throne, wearing a flowing monastic robe with soft folds and adorned with a long necklace that falls over her chest. Her serene face, with half-closed eyes and a gentle, meditative smile, is crowned by a high topknot incorporating the image of Buddha Amitabha. Her right hand is raised in a gesture of renunciation (abhaya mudra), while her left hand is shown with the palm open forward in an attitude of welcome and benevolence. The delicate features of her face and the harmonious treatment of the drapery convey spirituality and serenity. Beautiful antique patina, erosions and alterations due to prolonged exposure to the elements, and minor flaking. China, Northern Qi Dynasty, 6th century. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
