Guido Reni (1575–1642), seguace di - San Francisco de Asís en oración

Oil on canvas representing St. Francis of Assisi in prayer, a Bologna school work attributed to Guido Reni's workshop, likely executed during the 17th century. The composition responds directly to the devotional models developed by Guido Reni and his circle: half-length figure, elevated gaze, hands interlaced in a prayerful attitude, halo discreetly outlined, and a strong contrast between the illuminated face and the dark background. The expressiveness of the face, the modeling of the flesh tones, and the treatment of the hands stand out in particular. The work shows old re-linING, craquelure in keeping with its age and visible historical restorations, preserving a notable aesthetic presence and devotional character. It is accompanied by a gold frame of classical style. Technique: oil on canvas School: Bologna Attribution: Guido Reni workshop Era: 17th century Canvas dimensions: 59 × 48 cm Framed dimensions: 71 × 60 cm Condition: restored and re-lined historically; wear, craquelure and small losses typical of age. A piece of marked decorative quality and interest for collectors of Italian old master paintings, Baroque art and Old Masters.
