Gundi Falk (1966) - Entrelacs nr 6 - Grande peinture sur panneau Circa

Gundi Falk (born 1966) – The Entwinings Painting on Panel, 100 × 70 cm, 2002 Artist: Gundi Falk (born 1966 in Salzburg, Austria – living and working in Brussels) Title: The Entwinings (Entrelacs 6) Date: 2002 Technique: Painting (acrylic) on panel Dimensions: 100 × 70 cm Signature: Monogram “GF” in a square, lower left. On the back, atelier inscription: “Entrelacs 6 / 02 Falk” Condition: Work from the artist’s studio, with minor wear and panel hollows, normal for a working piece Framing: Sold unframed Provenance: Artist’s studio, Brussels – SR Fine Art The Work Two bodies, perhaps three, are held in an embrace. They cannot be separated. A back curves over a shoulder, a head nestles into a hollow, thighs and arms cross and close around each other. Nothing is a portrait. Everything is a gripping: weight, rhythm, contact. The panel is rendered in black, gray, and white. The blacks mark the joints and the gaps between the bodies. The whites push the flesh forward. The grays, laid on in broad strokes, build the volumes. From afar, the work reads in a single glance: entwined figures, a repose, a knot. Up close, one can see the studio work—impasto, retouching, brush traces, the panel still visible beneath the matter. Large horizontal format, with a nearly sculptural presence. Without blue or red, the gray lends this embrace a dry gravity. The panel asks for a calm wall and raking light so that the whites regain all their density. Biography Gundi Falk, born in 1966 in Salzburg, is a painter, sculptor, and contemporary dancer by training. She studied dance and calligraphy in Asia and Europe. Based in Brussels for many years, she develops a practice where movement, rhythm, chance, and space are inseparable. Line is not a descriptive contour: it is the trace of a moving body. Since 1998 she has exhibited internationally. Notable exhibitions include: - Gallery at the Assignment Theater, Taipei (1998) - Grand Casino Bern (2005) - Le Corbusier, Marseille (2006) - Museum of New Art, Pärnu, Estonia (2009–2010) - Galerie Vertigo Art and Le Salon d’Art, Brussels (2011, 2014). From 2011 she collaborates with Pierre Cordier, inventor of the chemigram (1956). Their joint works have been shown at Von Lintel Gallery, New York (Unique, 2013); Haines Gallery, San Francisco (Index and Icon, 2015); The Heckscher Museum, New York (Modern Alchemy – Experiments in Photography, 2014–2015); Paris Photo (2016); Galerie Volker Diehl, Berlin (2016); Barbado Gallery, Lisbon (2016); Galerie Anna Wenger, Zurich (The Chemigram, 2018); Galerie Gimpel & Müller, Paris (DUO, 2020–2021); Hangar Photo Art Center, Brussels (UNIQUE / Beyond Photography, 2024); La Centrale.brussels (Hosting, 2024). In parallel, her pictorial work—entanglements, constructions of nudes, lineworks—has notably been presented at Espace Art by Goralska, Luxembourg (Entrelacs – Espace de dynamisme et de souffles, 2022), RSF Paris (2025) and Galerie Marcher, Wels (Lebenslinien, 2025–2026). Her works are in private collections in Europe, the United States, and Asia.
