- Gustav Klimt (after), offset lithograph on textured matte paper (approx. 300gsm, refers to paper thickness/density). - Signed in the plate. - Stamp on verso. - Embossed stamp. - Condition: very good. Never framed, never exposed. - Size of each: 43 x 69,5 cm - Water Serpents II (1907) by Gustav Klimt is one of the most sensual and visually hypnotic works from the artist’s celebrated Golden Period, combining feminine beauty, ornamental richness and symbolic mystery in a composition of extraordinary decorative power. The flowing female figures, surrounded by vibrant patterns, floral motifs and jewel-like colour, create a dreamlike underwater world where eroticism, mythology and Art Nouveau elegance merge into a timeless image of beauty and desire. The work reflects Klimt’s unmistakable visual language, where the female body becomes both a symbol of sensuality and a decorative element within a larger ornamental universe. The elongated forms, golden rhythms, mosaic-like details and luxurious surface connect Water Serpents II with the artistic atmosphere of Vienna Secession, while placing Klimt in dialogue with major figures such as Egon Schiele, Aubrey Beardsley, Alphonse Mucha, Odilon Redon, Amedeo Modigliani, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. The composition’s extraordinary combination of pale skin, fiery orange, deep black, floral pinks and shimmering decorative detail gives it a strong visual presence, ideal for lovers of Art Nouveau prints, Symbolist art, female nude compositions, vintage-inspired interiors and sophisticated decorative wall art. Its sensual atmosphere and ornamental intensity also make it highly attractive within current interior trends, where bold figurative works and museum-inspired statement pieces are increasingly used to create elegant, expressive spaces. Klimt’s influence extends far beyond early twentieth-century Vienna. His fusion of sensuality, pattern and luxury continues to resonate with the visual impact of later modern and contemporary artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, David Hockney, Mark Rothko, Pierre Soulages, Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Karl Lagasse, Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons. Like these artists, Klimt created images that are instantly recognisable, emotionally charged and deeply connected to the culture of collecting. Within today’s broader collecting world where fine art, vintage design, luxury names such as Rolex, Patek Philippe and Cartier, and popular icons like Star Wars, Pokémon and Lego can coexist in curated interiors Klimt’s imagery retains a unique aura of refinement and sensual sophistication. Water Serpents II fits beautifully within elegant interiors, art walls, design-led spaces and collections focused on beauty, symbolism, femininity and decorative modernism. A iconic image, Water Serpents II captures the essence of Gustav Klimt’s artistic universe: ornamental splendour, erotic elegance, symbolic depth and timeless visual luxury.
